The Kansas Union is the hub for
student interaction, activities, and
events. Each level features historical
displays, including the first Baby Jay
costume, the Big Tooter steam whistle,
the KU Women’s Hall of Fame, Senior
Class Banners, and the Ascher Family
Collection, which contains more than
1,000 versions of our famous mascot.
The union has numerous spaces for
public and private meetings, dinners,
conferences, lectures, seminars,
concerts, and other events. The
largest is the Ballroom, Level 5, which
accommodates up to 1,000. Alderson
Auditorium on Level 4 seats 40-150,
and Woodruff Auditorium on Level 5
seats 499. Small alcoves and parlors can
accommodate 10 to 140 people.
The Jayhawk, Big 12, Malott, and Kansas
rooms on Level 5 and 6 range in capacity
from 75 to 275 people and are used by
university groups or the public.

Located in the heart of KU’s Central District,
the Burge Union’s experience-centric design
features meeting and event accommodation
options for the campus and the Lawrence
community, a Forum that can accommodate up
to 1,514 guests, and plenty of open areas with
modern functionality and style. The newest
student union is designed around and dedicated
to the spirit of service pioneered by its namesake,
Frank R. Burge, who served as the Kansas Union’s
director from 1952-83 and was known as a “oneman Welcome Wagon.”

Student Union Activities (SUA) is a
student organization that hosts hundreds
of events for students and the public,
including concerts, lectures, and comedic
performances, at venues around campus.
SUA is one of KU’s largest student
organizations and has planned or
“programmed” events for the entire Jayhawk
community to enjoy for over 85 years. Find
