PARKING & TRANSIT
This is the reality: Parking is tricky on this historic campus surrounded by residential
neighborhoods. But here’s the good news: Buses are frequent and everyone rides free!
VISITOR PARKING
Visitor parking is available on an hourly basis
in the three parking garages or by using the
ParkMobile app. A valid parking permit is
required in all other parking lots at times
indicated on signs.
Garage parking is $1.75 for the first hour and
$1.50 for each additional hour.
•
Mississippi Street Parking Garage:
entrances on Oread Avenue and
Mississippi Street.
•
Allen Fieldhouse Parking Garage: entrance
on Irving Hill Road west of Naismith Drive.
•
Central District Garage: entrance on
Ousdahl Road, north of 18th Street.
•
Meters cost $1.50 an hour and can be paid
in coin or credit card with Parkmobile
pay-by-phone.
Parkmobile pay-by-phone can also be used in
all three parking garages and all yellow zones
throughout campus at $1.50 per hour. Visitors
can ride any bus free to reach their destination
on campus.
Visitors may also purchase daily permits for most
parking lots at the Transportation Services office;
go to parking.ku.edu/visitor-parking
for information.
ACCESSIBILITY
Accessible parking is at a premium and is firstcome, first-served every day. ADA-compliant
accessible parking spaces are marked in most
campus parking lots.
Visitors who wish to park in ADA spaces must
purchase a daily visitor permit ($3/day or $1.50/
half day) in the Parking & Transit office in the
Allen Fieldhouse Garage. For more information,

The Hawk Route is the stairless accessible route
to travel through campus from Sunnyside Avenue
to Jayhawk Boulevard. See more at
accessibility.ku.edu/maps.
BUS SERVICES
KU and Lawrence Transit operate a coordinated
bus system. All buses are accessible. Each fixed
route bus is equipped with a wheelchair lift or
ramp and audio announcement equipment.
Ride all buses free this year, whether on campus
or off.
Bus stops on campus are marked with bus stop
signs and most have schedules posted for the
routes that serve them. For detailed information,
route maps, and schedules, visit
lawrencetransit.org or call 785-864-4644
for more information. You can also download the
Transit app for iPhone or Android for real-time
bus arrival information.
CONSTRUCTION AND DETOURS
Construction projects take place every summer
around campus, which temporarily close some
streets from mid-May through early August,
requiring a few detours. To check on the latest
construction projects requiring temporary
detours go to fpd.ku.edu/construction-closures.
For pedestrian safety,
vehicle access to the
central campus is
restricted 7:45 a.m.-5 p.m.
Monday-Friday while
school is in session in the
fall and spring semesters,
8 a.m.-2 p.m. MondayFriday during the summer.
Permits are required to
