JAYHAWKS
ACROSS
CAMPUS
It’s impossible to wander Mount Oread without
encountering a Jayhawk. Whether cast in bronze,
painted in wild technicolor, or beaming from behind a
display case, there’s no shortage of one-of-a-kind
objayhawks d’art to find across campus. Don’t worry,
your bird-watching tour won’t require binoculars —
just this handy guide and a comfortable pair of
walking shoes (preferably oversized and yellow).
HISTORICAL JAYHAWKS
The Ascher Family Plaza
The Jayhawk has gone through
over a century of evolution, from
1912’s leggy charmer to Hal Sandy’s
modern-day favorite. These six bronze
statues sculpted by Robin Richerson
(including the ones at left, above, and
upper right), are a gift of James J.
Ascher Sr. and Phi Deuteron Chapter
of Phi Gamma Delta, Class of 1980.
