The museum is nationally recognized for its public
natural history exhibits and collections, research
and graduate education, and education and
outreach programs for K-12, KU students, and the
public. Four floors of exhibits explore the biological diversity of the planet and showcase dinosaurs,
mammals, reptiles, fish, parasites, microbes and
more. Living exhibits include a live beehive, insects,
snakes, and anoles. The museum’s Panorama
exhibit, built for the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, is
one of the largest in the world and includes scenes
of arctic to tropical habitats. The official state land
fossil (Silvisaurus) and state flying fossil (Pteranodon) are on view, as well as the official state marine
fossil, a 45-foot-long Tylosaurus, which welcomes
visitors in the lobby.

The Dole Institute, a vibrant forum for civil
discourse, civic engagement, and idea exchange
across the political spectrum, features historical
archives, exhibits, and public programs for all ages.
Inspired by the public service of Senators Bob and
Elizabeth Dole, visitor galleries feature changing
exhibits, the Kansas Veterans Virtual Memory Wall,
architectural-scale stained glass American flag, and
September 11 memorial. Free.

The gallery, which is free and open to the public, is
a teaching space for the Department of Visual Arts
and features works by students, faculty, and visiting
and regional artists.

PHARMACY MUSEUM
This all-sports museum houses interactive exhibits,
championship trophies, and memorabilia from
coaches, teams, and athletes, as well as the Kansas
Athletics Hall of Fame. From the Booth Hall,
visitors can access the Rally House Store in Allen
Fieldhouse and Naismith’s original basketball rules
in the DeBruce Center. (Closed for renovations
until early October.)

Connected to KU’s historic Allen Fieldhouse,
the DeBruce Center serves as a modern student
commons and immersive interpretive center rich in
KU basketball history. The DeBruce Center proudly
displays James Naismith’s Original Rules of “Basket
Ball,” encouraging fans of all ages to come together
to explore a sport near and dear to KU’s heart.
Hours:
KU’s oldest museum collection was founded in
1888. The historic collection features ancient
Greek and Roman artifacts, including Greek vases,
coins, small sculptures, and painted terracottas,
in addition to plaster casts of notable works of
Greek and Roman sculpture, such as the Venus de
Milo. Supplemental exhibits are on the first floor of
Wescoe Hall.
